Follow First Avenue until you reach Renfrew street.

Turn right (south) onto Renfrew street and follow it south past Broadway, across the train tracks (BNSF line to Vancouver) to Grandview Highway. Turn right (west) on Grandview Highway and look for parking.

From UBC, Kitsilano, Point Grey and the western part of Vancouver

There are three main routes:

12th Avenue

If you are near 12th Avenue (or 10th ) follow it east until it becomes Grandview Highway.

After you cross Nanaimo Street start looking for Kaslo (2nd light past Nanaimo). Turn left at the Kaslo light (RONA is on your left), cross the railway tracks (BNSF line to Vancouver) then look for a right turn to get you across to Renfrew.

One block ahead turn right on to Renfrew Street, cross the tracks again then turn right onto Grandview Highway. Look for parking. We are a half block west of Renfrew Street on the north side of Grandview Highway.

If you miss the tun onto Kaslo you can turn left at Renfrew and circle right through the McDonalds parking lot to get to Grandview Highway.

41 st Avenue

Head east on 41 Avenue until you reach Rupert Street. Turn left (north) onto Rupert Street.
Eventually after going down hill under the Sky Train, then up hill again, you will head down a steep hill to the Grandview Highway intersection. (There is a Trail Appliances on the North East Corner and a Great Canadian Superstore on the North West Corner). Turn left (west) onto Grandview Highway.

Railfanning at Central Hobbies

Behind Central Hobbies is the BNSF mainline to Vancouver.
On this line you will see:

  • The Amtrak Talgo train is running again It runs from Seattle to Vancouver and back. It passes by the store in the morning about 11:15+ and the return trip to Seattle in the evening passes about 6:05 PM) daily

  • The Via Canadian

  • BNSF Trains (or motive power transfers) to and from downtown Vancouver with various combinations of motive power; anything from a pair of switchers to the latest motive power in any of the current or heritage paint schemes. With SRY now operating the brage slip (see following) there are rumours that BNSF traffic downtown will cease completely.

  • SRY has taken over operation of the BNSF (former Great northern) barge slip at the Vancouver waterfront so SRY motive power passes daily.

  • Canadian National trains to and from downtown Vancouver with various different combinations of motive power; CN, BC Rail and leased.

  • The Rocky Mountaineer (in season).

  • Special trains: Railgrinders, MOW trains, Business specials, etc. . .
