Paints

Central Hobbies stocks several lines of paints. We stock the full lines of Floquil, PolyScale, TrueLine Trains Paints, Scalecoat.CN Sig, Tamiya Acrylics, Testors, Humbrol, some ModelFlex, some AccuPaint, and a few selected colours from other lines.

Importing paint into Canada

Government regulations are making it difficult to import paint into Canada as few of the paint products meet Canadian labeling and packaging Standards.

This impacts all Testors products (Floquil and PolyScale), Scalecoat, SolvaSet, Accupaint, True-Color paint, various paint pens and various glues.

There are three issues: Labeling as to hazardous contents, Labeling as to French, and Packaging. Having obtained a set of the relevant regulations we are working through them to determine what needs to be done.
All paints with hazardous contents need to be labeled with the appropriate symbols. Warnings need to be in English and French. Packaging needs to be child proof.

We are working through the products one at a time to determine what needs to be done. We hope to have paint back in good stock by the new year.

Accupaint

As the developer of Accupaint passed away last year(2010) the product line is dead.
This page was current as of the update date. Current price shown. Please call or email to confirm stock status. As Accupaint is a solvent based paint it is not supposed to be mailed.

A new company is bringing out a similar paint" "Tru-Color Paint". We have samples on order and will have one of our local painters check it out before we bring in stock.

Floquil

We have the full Floquil Railroad paint rack. As it have been impossible to get new stock many colours are now out of stock. We are working on this.

PolyScale

We have the full PolyScale Railroad paint rack. As it have been impossible to get new stock many colours are now out of stock. We are working on this.

RailFlyer Acrylics

These are Acrylic Resin from Vallejo. The paints are highly pigmented, cover in one coat and lay flat even when brush painted. The paint is also non-toxic and clean up with water. The bottles are 17ml eye droppers. The paint needs to be thinned for airbrush use and is concentrated. The paints are matched using railway supplied samples, DuPont Paint codes, and pantone matches.

Suggested MSRP - $ 5.25. We will be stocking this paint.

TrueLine Trains Paints

We have the full TrueLine Trains Railroad paint rack. All colours are in stock. Supply is good. We have no problems getting this product.

ModelFlex

We have part of the full Model Flex paint rack system. We are low (or out of stock) of many colours. Please contact us for stock status.

ScaleCoat

We stock some ScaleCoat I colours. Although these have Childproof safety caps and proper labeling we are having problems getting this paint. Please note that re labeling and re capping (child proof safety cap) to comply with Government Safety Regulations adds a dollar to the price.

CN-Sig Paint

We try and stock the full line of CN-Sig colours. Please note that due to the onerous shipping charges involved with re supplying the paint, we will often wait until we have a large enough order to dilute the shipping charges. Please contact us for stock status.

Tamiya Acrylics

The Tamiya Acrylics are very nice paint to work with. While they are not specifically railroad colours (actually Military Colours) there are many useable colours including translucent colours. Supply is good.

Testors

We have basic Testors paint rack. Although these are basic model colours they do have the all important 'DullCote'. Supply is good.

Humbrol

We have the basic Humbrol rack. Most colours are in stock. Supply is good.

Other Paint Brands

We stock a few of the Model Masters colours (BC rail Greens). Other colours can be obtained.
